So, as you may have gathered by the lack of day change posts, Einmal is having a bit of troubles. As such, I'm officially switching the game to Sandbox mode.

What does this mean?

In short: No day change posts, apps are just saying "hey hey let me play" and the mods are mostly going to be there to flag down if you need/want info on something. Lazy Mod is going full out lazy with this.

If anyone wants to do something with the NPCs, just give a holler and one shall appear but just assume everyone's gone into an odd sort of automatic pilot.

New mods~!

I'm very pleased to announce that Ember [Peeta-mun] and Ekko [Liara-mun] have joined on as co-mods for Einmal and will be picking up my slack and hopefully helping to get things moving here again.

There's also an email set up for the mod box for if you don't want to PM the mod account and contact info has been set up for the new co mods as well.

So, as you may have noticed, there's been a slight shift in how the day change posts have been, as well as me flaking out a lot about getting them up. Especially the Wednesday ones. As much as I hate to admit it, I'm hitting a point where I'm getting a bit burned out on running the game, especially as the player base has been shrinking, and with the fact that I'll be moving in 2 months, I think it's come time for me to ask you guys for some help.

I would like to get a co-mod to help with some of the basic operations, getting the day change up, keeping the spreadsheet up to date, going out and trying to find new players, possibly taking some of the NPCs to play, etc. I also would love for you guys to give some feedback and ideas for getting the game up to speed again. Ideas for plots, things that just aren't working, things that you think would get things going, etc. I know I haven't been the best or most active mod as of late, and I apologize for it and would like to find ways to get things back on track. I just need all your help to get it there.

Day change

Soooo this 1:5 thing is actually really hard for me to get on top of, just due to the change not having a regular pattern. So I think unless there are any objections, I'm going to switch it to 2:7 with the day change post going up on Sunday as usual with a note of when the two days are, and a small quick change post mid week with just the day and the weather and any OoC reminders.

Sound good to everybody?

So, since the poll has been up most of a month now, unless there's any last minute comments on it, we're going to be shifting to a 1:5 ratio sometime in the near future!

Also, I finally got around to making the Book of Quests that I mentioned. It's just a skeleton at the moment, and links to relevant bits of info will be added for OoC reference. Feel free to have your character discover it in the Hero House Library! [As a reminder for newbies, if you want your character to move into the Hero House, check out the housing page for more info! You don't need to live there to have access to it, however!]

Feel free to nudge or prod me about any of the info pages that need updating since I've been kinda bad at that lately.

So, in an effort to make up for my fail, collecting feed back for game improvement to hopefully get things back up to speed! Poll is anon enabled, and as always, feel free to comment on the entry, PM, IM or pester me on plurk anytime you have feedback or an idea for the game!

.... So I just realized that SOMEHOW I forgot the day change this weekend.

Since it's already Wednesday and I was late with last week's too would anyone be too upset if I just... said that the last 3 weeks were just 2 days?

ALSO I just noticed that the last day change SOMEHOW got backdated in the system... so I don't even know if anyone saw it ><

I'm just... I have no idea how that happened or how I managed to forget this day change. I'M SO SORRY GUYS ><

Does someone want to be in charge of poking me when the change does't go up...?

So had an idea for two additions to game mechanics:

The first as a bit of a consequence to the battle with the Hero of the Mountain: Due to time fracturing for the length of that battle, every now and then, the time around Our Heroes will fracture a little, causing multiple instances of the same event to happen all at once.

For example, take Sasuke's latest log: One point of time to start it, and due to the time anomaly, each person who encounters him encounters him at the same time, but in different instances. These times remain separate until all of the threads wind up with Sasuke back in the same place [for example, when he goes back to his room] at which point they all merge so all of them happened at the same time.

Consider this a slightly complicated plot device for open logs so that you can have multiple people all be the first/only one to react to an event.

Second idea is the Book of Rumors (tm)

This is a magical book found in the library of the Hero Headquarters that will automatically write down all rumors heard [aka, everything on the day change board.] When the day change goes up, a new page will write itself in the book, with space in the margins or the page across from it for people to add notes, write questions, make angry scribbles, etc. The page itself will be in OoC or in the Mod Journal and will link to all the day changes. You all can also add new rumors and have others respond to those too.

Thoughts on these? Either post or click the poll!

So, after talking with Giles, he and Bakura came up with the idea that it would be kinda awesome to have a central headquarters for the Heroes of Schwanheim, so Bakura brought the idea up to the King, who thought this was an awesome idea and gave the Heroes a house in the Rich Quarter inside the old City Walls that had been abandoned for quite some time. A little bit of a fixer-upper, just right for the hero types, right?

But, as one might expect, there's a catch. After all, why would a building in the rich quarter in the capital city, that's quite impressive in it's own right, be left to ruin?

Bakura will make a post soon announcing the acquisition of the house (as soon as I find a good image for it) so stay tuned!

Also! People who want their characters to have houses proper in the capital, lemme know so I can assign them spots on the map! Spot 1 is where the Hero House will be [up to 4 people can move in there, Bakura is moving in to be caretaker of the house and will encourage people to join him.] Spot 3 is where Hawk, Aralu, Faolan, Snow and Shin will be moving to.

I'm going to be putting that housing map and a link to a bigger, hopefully more legible copy of the town map in the locations page soon. If need be, I can write out what all the locations are for ease of reading.

And I'm still looking for feeback on the Hero of the Mountain plot, both on if it's cool if I just summarize the rest and general feedback on the plot as a whole. Especially what didn't go so well so that I can make sure it works better next time.

So, as people looking at the taken page may notice, there is a new addition: Role type.

So, what is a Role Type?

You can think of the role type as a trope modifier. Some roles have this built in, like mages. Their type is the element they have affinity with. Similar, for non mages, the type is what trope they have affinity for. For example, A Foundling Prince, or an Oath-Bound Knight, or an Unreliable Sage. The type is basically a modification of the Role. It's totally optional, so feel free to leave it blank if you'd like, but also feel free to have fun with it and use it to customize your characters Role.

[This has been also added to the FAQ!]

If you want to add a role type to your character, you can either reply here with it, poke me on Plurk or AIM, or post it to the Taken page once I update the update form.

Any questions, as always, poke away!

The NPC page has gotten an update! It should now have all the currently discovered reoccurring NPCs with their up-to-date information.

Locations has also had a bit of updating, some clarity about the Two Faced Forest added in, as well as information on what little's known about other kingdoms.

As, after talking it over and getting overwhelmingly positive responses, I am going to start working out Classes to go with Roles as explained in my last post. I've already updated the taken page with the Roles that already had modifiers/types. Any one who didn't already have a type and who would like one, poke either here or over IM or Plurk and we'll work one out! This is an optional thing so don't feel as if you have to.

I have also started work on a chart that will hopefully be helpful for people trying to decide a Role for their character! It's still very much a work in progress, so I would love to hear any feed back or suggestions for it you might have!

[personal profile] thequestgiver
In preparation for more Role based plots, I'm thinking of tweaking the Role systems so that characters can have a Role and a Class/sub class.

For example, for the elemental mages, it's be "Elemental Mage" with the class "White" or "Metal." Or for Loki's "Foundlign Prince" it'd be "Prince" with the subclass class "Founding." This would allow for in later plots when there's a call for a specific Role, such as a Prince or a Mage or a Rouge, people who have opted for a more specialized class/roll can still have their character fill that role.

This sub field will be optional so people who want to keep it simple still can.

Examples and a visual for how this will work will go up on the Roles page (which is in major need of work, sorry all! I'll get to it!)

Thoughts? Other ideas?

[for those of you who'd rather talk it out on Plurk, go here. Those who'd rather talk it out on AIM, I'm on at Frandenut!]

Just a heads up that it's nearing the end of the month, which means activity check is coming up. As always, you can check your activity at the Taken page (just click the tab that says Activity. If you love stats the way I do, there's also the Tallies tag for fun statistics on the current mix of characters!) Also, please remember to tag entries your character has posted in to make AC all that much easier.

Also, if anyone has any requests for NPC logs to go up, lemme know! Benu and the King have threads in the ball log, and all others can have logs put up on request! You can either PM this account or pester me (Fran) on plurk.

With the realization that the duel tag system for posts and comments might be kinda confusing or a pain for people, I am debating merging it so that it's just one tag per person and would like your input! Either just vote, or vote and comment. Thanks!

The end of the month is coming up, which will mean activity check! Please check the Activity tab here and make sure there's a note next to your character's name for February! If there isn't, you either need to still make activity with that character, or haven't tagged your entries/comments properly. If there is a note (and that's the case for most of you!), relax, you've made AC!

As a reminder from the FAQ:

Activity check will be held at the start of every month. Players are required to have one participation per month. Participation means that there should be a minimum of 4 comments by your character in the post, whether it be a log or orb post. The post itself counts as 1 comment for the poster, so, for example, if the player makes an orb post, they would need to reply 3 more times to have it count. If there are no replies to the post, it does not count for participation, however, if the player has made two posts, both with no replies, the two combined will count as one participation. Players who are on hiatus for over a week are exempt from activity check, however, if hiatus is used more then 2 months in a row, or for half or more of the players checks for a period of time, the mods will contact that player to make sure that hiatus is not being used to avoid participation.

Every character has 2 tags, one that's just their name, and one that's c: and their name. The one that's just their names are for all the posts that they're the originator of (or, if it's a log post, if they're in that post). The c: ones are for posts that they've commented on. These are really helpful for finding threads and checking activity, so please try and remember to tag an entry after you've replied to it!

If your tag isn't showing up on the list, poke the mod account and I'll get it working. Thank you!

So, with the first proper app received and accepted, Einmal is now officially open!

What does this mean? All stuff posted ICly til now all has all happened in the span of a week. We'll be giving things a date and day of the week soon! Today is still the day that news of what happened in West Haven reached the town boards. The day will continue until Sunday, January 1st, when the first day change post will go up. Time will start at a rate of one week in the real world being one day in game time.

Please be sure to spread the word of the game to anyone you think might be interested! Let's get some more players and get the game really going!

[Map not to scale. May or may not be accurate. Beware the goblins.]

The Kingdom
Sometimes known as Einmal, but mostly just called "The Kingdom" because the locals are totally self centered, it stretches from the Sea to the Fire Mountains and down to the Unknown Lands. Or rather, to the Thorns that came from the Unknown Lands.

Schwanheim
The capital of the Kingdom, where the King resides. A simple but sizable town in a small valley, where the people are friendly and children play happily in the streets. You can comfortably make a home here to have somewhere to return to between epic quests. There is no shortage of shops here, though don't expect any of them to open their doors to you after dark, as the townspeople are very superstitious. And rumour has it they have very good reason to be...

Schwanheim Castle
A lovely castle in the center of the town of the same name. Features a massive ballroom, great hall, and more bedrooms than one could count. The staff is attentive and helpful, but ask too many questions and you may find yourself getting your own supper. Though anyone is free to move about wherever they like in the castle, it has been said that whomever travels to the topmost floor of the central tower deserves whatever comes to them.

There are two throne rooms. One is the type you would expect in these settings, an insanely ornate, intricately decorated work of art with a huge throne and stained glass and shining floors that echo when you walk down them. It's designed to humble and amaze those who would come and seek an audience with the king. It's also the type that gets aired out and dusted once a week and before important dignitaries and other royalty come for official visits.

The throne room that the King actually uses is rather different. Rich wood paneling, a comfy cushioned throne, rugs that seem a shame to wear shoes on, well lit by windows, big enough to fit 200 people, but not so big that it feels empty when the king is sitting around with just his cloud of advisers and bodyguards, chatting conversationally with a small cluster of his subjects.

There is also a rather well stocked library, or at least so it seems so until one takes a closer look at the titles of the myriad books lining the walls. There's a lot of repetition of book titles with at least 40 copies of "Tales Past the Wall" with various different bindings, quite a few copies of "Three Sisters of Ill Fame," "How to Succeed in Kingship Without Really Trying," "The Catching of the Mole and other Bawdy Tales," and similar titles.

Drunk Duck Inn and Tavern
A tavern in the heart of Schwanheim, where the meals are warm and the beds are even warmer. Here the drink flows freely, as do the tongues of certain travelers if you’re lucky enough. Just don’t make any trouble, or the bartender will be more than happy to throw you out.

"Hero Headquarters"
The old Totentanz mansion in the rich part of town was given to the Heroes so that they could have a central location to work together. two floors and with grounds including it's very own bathhouse, the old Totentanz home was in it's time a great stately manor. Long since abandoned, it was left to fall prey to the elements and time until the King handed the keys to the summoned heroes and many locals say it would have been best to leave it abandoned, though they won't say why.

The Two-Faced Forest
In the daytime, the forest that surrounds the town is a lovely place, lush and full of berries and plenty of game. A perfect place for an afternoon ride. In the daytime, that is. After sunset, legend has it the forest grows over with thorns, and strange beast stalk its perimeters, searching for townspeople who’ve strayed. These are, however, different than the thorns that are destroying the kingdom and are far more easily defeated, something that has caused no end of confusion and false hope for would be heroes.

The White Tower
A tall white tower(source) in the woods not far from the monastery just outside of Schwanheim. Impossibly and almost arrogantly white, this tower puts out and air of dignity that seems to keep most of the lesser forest creatures away. The forest is however, slowly creeping closer and it looks as if it mounted an attack on the top floors...

Fire Mountains
The two tallest mountains in the range of that makes up the eastern border of the kingdom, are home to two equally wise, yet equally fearsome dragons. Rumoured to be sisters, these dragons have been in a sort of cold war for centuries. Now, with the thorns encroaching upon their homes, this war has broken out into violent conflict, which is bad news for the towns near by. Travelers are warned not to approach either mountain, for each dragon sister will think the other is the cause of the disturbance.

West Haven, the town that wasn't. And still isn't.
About a half day's travel from Schwanheim, by all reports this was a quiet little hamlet even before all it's inhabitants vanished. Rumours of it being cursed or besieged started flying once the town was found empty, and it has now been all but forgotten about now that it turns out it was all just an illusion.

The Old Capital
Long ago this place used to have a name. Dang it all if anyone can recall it, though, it's been The Old Capital since the King moved to Schwanheim. Not that anyone can blame him, even the stubborn natives of the Old Capital say Schwanheim's the nicer place to live. While not quite a ghost town, it's still rather sparsely populated and seems to mostly be a retirement and tourism town. The castle's outer wall crumbled days after the King left and plenty of adventurers have been bilked out of lots of money by the natives for the chance to explore it's ruins and that of the abandoned houses the depopulation has left behind.

On the surface, the Old Capital looks much like Schwanheim, only without the two rivers flanking the castle. It's much smaller, the houses father apart and older looking that the more crowded capital, and far more ordered. It has the feel of a city that was planned out. The semi-ruined castle stands in the center acting as gateway to the 4 wide streets that slice through the circular town like the spokes of a wheel, dividing it into sections. One quarter is the market and craftsman district, the road leading to the castle lined with stalls and merchants with goods on blankets, side streets winding down towards the less sightly businesses. Flanking it on both ends are two housing districts, the smaller homes closer to the market, getting larger as they head for the 4th district, full of large mansions and an impressive church.

There's a large clock tower in the market district that matches the one back in Schwanheim, and a bulletin board much the same.

Other Kingdoms

The Kingdom of the Giants
The Kingdom of the Giants is up in the clouds (yes, even on a clear day where there are non, shush) and can be accessed via the Fire Mountains. Or by beanstalk, but if you aren't careful, you'll punch a hole in some giant's floor.

The Kingdom of the Giants is full of giants, easily three or four times the height of a grown man. Other than their size, giants are are strange people, clad in polyester, the men traveling long distances to work at a mysterious place called "the office", the woman staying at home and watching small boxes that hold such magical things called "Soap Operas" and "Variety Shows" and instead of a King, they have a Mayor, who's replaceable. Even their dates are different, calling the year 1953. But they seem mostly harmless.

The Unknown Lands
The land to the south east of the Kingdom.

...what, you were expecting something more? It's called the Unknown Lands for good reason, you know! ... Oh fine.

Currently, the lands are thought to be utterly devoured by the Thorns, and to be the origin of where the Thorns themselves. Rumor has that more was known about these lands before the wall fell, but that was long ago and no one cares enough to bother keeping track of these things. Far more mysterious to just call them the Unknown Lands, right? Of course right.
